As a freshman at UC Santa Barbara in 2012, Mahle pitched 46 1⁄3 innings for a 3-4 win-loss record and a 3.88 earned run average (ERA). At the plate, Mahle recorded a .347 batting average with 66 total hits, which helped him earn a spot on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team along with 2nd Team All Big West.\n', '
