He wasn\'t a very imposing threat - 5\'10", 180 pounds - but he was still talented. In 1975, Ramirez was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round (535th overall). He opted not to sign. Three years later, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round (254th), but still did not sign. One year later, he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 5th round (123rd). Finally, he signed a contract. \n', '
His professional career started one year later, in 1979 in the FSL. Even though his record in his first season was less than perfect (3-9), his ERA of 2.61 didn\'t show it. He did well enough to earn a promotion to AA, where he went 16-8 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 games the next season. In 1981, Allan Ramirez suffered his first subpar season. With AAA Rochester, he had a 4.17 ERA in 8 games. Ramirez spent some time in A-ball that year too, going 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA. \n', '
On June 8, 1983 - at the age of 26 - he made his Major League debut with the Baltimore Orioles. From that date to September 13, 1983, he would pitch fairly well. Even though he walked 30 and struck out only 20, his ERA was a fair 3.47. His defense was also flawless - not a single error in 11 games. \n', "
