Calvin Borel hails from south Louisiana: the heart of Cajun Country, and famous for having produced a number of top jockeys.[citation needed] Like Randy Romero, Kent Desormeaux, Eddie Delahoussaye and Shane Sellers. Borel began racing horses in the bush tracks near his hometown of Catahoula and started riding in match races at the age of eight.
