He attended San Leandro High School in San Leandro, California.
Curtis has one brother named James Goodwin. His brother James also attended San Leandro High School and played football at the University of Washington in Seattle. Curtis has one nephew, Jaime Goodwin, who was named the Arizona state champion for high school boys golf in 2011, selected as Arizona Republic’s pick as 2011 Arizona Boys Golfer of the Year, and was named All Southern Arizona in 2010 and 2011. Curtis’ niece, Jasmine Goodwin, became the second Black woman to be named the winner of the Seafair Scholarship Program for Women in 2014, serving as the 65th Miss Seafair.
