As a youth, Laperrière played in the 1981 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Laval, Quebec.\n', '
He played with the St. Louis Blues and the Ottawa Senators. He graduated from St. Lawrence University where he played for the Skating Saints, earning Hobey Baker Award nomination in 1992.[citation needed]\n', '
Laperrière was drafted 93rd overall by St. Louis in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, and went on to play in 48 regular season games, scoring two goals and five assists for season points, collecting 27 penalty minutes.[citation needed] \n', '
