Dockins had a rookie season of (8–6, 3.21 ERA). He made his major league debut in relief on May 5, 1945 against the Chicago Cubs at Sportsman\'s Park. His first major league win came twenty-five days later, also in relief, in a 12-inning 4–2 victory over the Boston Braves in the first game of a home doubleheader. He pitched his first major league shutout on August 8, 1945 vs. the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds.\n', '

After World War II was over, Dockins got into four more big league games. Pitching four times in relief for Brooklyn in 1947, he gave up seven earned runs in 5.1 innings.
