McCloud was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft. The 6\'6" (1.98 m) guard–forward only averaged 5.5 points per game for the Pacers. He was released after four largely unproductive seasons in 1993, and was regarded as a draft bust. While playing for the Pacers, he once suffered a sprained ankle while talking on the telephone. He was out of the league in 1993–94, but got a second chance in the NBA when he was signed by the Dallas Mavericks midway through the 1994–95 seasons, and made the most of his second opportunity, and went on to play a total of 12 years in the NBA from 1989 to 2002. In addition to the Pacers and Mavericks, McCloud also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.\n', '
