McCloud was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 1989 NBA Draft. The 6\'6" (1.98 m) guard–forward only averaged 5.5 points per game for the Pacers. He was released after four largely unproductive seasons in 1993, and was regarded as a draft bust. While playing for the Pacers, he once suffered a sprained ankle while talking on the telephone.
