Cooley was a three-year starter at Glenbrook South High School and averaged 20.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game in his junior season. He averaged 20.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game in his senior season, but missed the second half of the season due to a thumb injury. According to ESPN recruiting, Cooley was ranked as the #33 power forward in the class of 2009. On February 5, 2009, Cooley committed to the University of Notre Dame.\n', '
