Jerry Sichting, the 6 ft 1 in (185 cm), 175 lb (79 kg) guard from Martinsville, Indiana, attended Martinsville High School. In his junior year, he led the Artesians to a IHSAA Sectional title. He had an excellent senior season, leading his school to a 21–2 record and another IHSAA Sectional title; he averaged 21 points, while shooting 53 percent from the field and 83 percent at the line in three seasons.
