Halama made his debut with the Houston Astros in 1998. Prior to that he had attended St. Francis College and Pitched for the Terriers from 1991–1994. Halama also attended and graduated from Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School in Brooklyn, New York in 1990.\n', '
In midseason 1998, Halama was sent to Seattle along with Freddy García and Carlos Guillén in the same trade that brought Randy Johnson to Houston. Halama won 41 games for the Mariners in a four-year span, with a career high 14 victories in 2000.\n', '
