Marcum entered the major leagues late in the 1933 season at the age of 23 with the Philadelphia Athletics, compiling a record of 3-2 in five appearances. He spent the next two years with the Athletics as one of their main starting pitchers. He went 14-11 in 1934 and 17-12 in 1935.\n', '
