Ferland was born in Quebec City, Quebec. As a youth, he played in the 1996 and 1997 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from Beauce, Quebec.\n', '
Ferland was the property of National Hockey League\'s Montreal Canadiens and assigned to the American Hockey League\'s Hamilton Bulldogs for five seasons.
