Louis Buller Gohmert Jr. (/ˈɡoʊmərt/; born August 18, 1953) is an American attorney and former judge who currently serves as the U.S. Representative from Texas\' 1st congressional district, in office since 2005, a member of the Republican Party, Gohmert is part of the Tea Party movement. In January 2015, he unsuccessfully challenged John Boehner for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.\n', 'Gohmert was born in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of Erma Sue (née Brooks) and Louis Buller Gohmert. He is of German descent on his father\'s side. Gohmert was raised in Mount Pleasant, Texas, where he graduated from the local high school in 1971.\n', 'He enrolled in Texas A&M University, receiving U.S. Army scholarship and earning a B.A. in history in 1975.
