Black played high school basketball for the Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore where he graduated in 1975. He then played for Saint Joseph\'s College in Pennsylvania from 1975–1979, averaging 17 points per game in his playing career. Black later played in Continental Basketball Association from 1979-1982 for the Lancaster Red Roses and the Philadelphia Kings. He also played for the Detroit Pistons in the National Basketball Association, but played only three games in the 1980-81 season, averaging 2.7 points per game.\n', '
