Savović was born in the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ) in the city Pula to a family of Montenegrian descent. He attended Ivan Goran Kovacic High School in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. He attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) from 1997–98 and then the University of Hawaii at Manoa, in the U.S., from 1998 to 2002.
