Patterson attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and was drafted by the Dodgers in the 29th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. After beginning the season with the Isotopes, the Dodgers purchased his contract and called him up to make his Major League debut in the second game of a doubleheader on May 1, 2014 against the Minnesota Twins.
