White was drafted by the Montreal Expos as the 24th overall pick in the first round of 1990 Major League Baseball draft and, played in their minor league system for four years from 1990 to 1994. In 1993, White posted an impressive .380 batting average in 42 games for the Ottawa Lynx of the International League, earning him a promotion to the Expos.
