Ludwick then enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and played for the UNLV Rebels baseball team for three seasons. He was named to the Baseball America all-Freshman team in 1997 after batting .354 with 46 home runs and 109 runs batted in (RBI) and was All-Western Athletic Conference in 1999, hitting .381 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI.
