Clyde Raybould Battin was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, USA, to Italian immigrant parents and grew up here, attending local schools. He discovered the electric bass when he was 17 years old. \n', '
Two years later, he moved to Tucson to attend physical education classes at the University of Arizona. With fellow student Gary Paxton, he formed a college band, the Pledges.
